New year, new (customs) process

1ST January 2022 sees the introduction of full customs controls at UK borders for goods moving between the EU and Great Britain.

What does this mean?

It means that customs declarations can no longer be delayed and are required either as pre-lodgement (for use at the borders ahead of crossing) or as temporary storage clearance (from a customs warehouse/port).

To continue to meet your expectations and manage processes effectively and efficiently, we have created the following system to allow us to best manage the receipt of clearance requests:

Same day customs clearance paperwork

Please make sure our import clearance team is sent all necessary paperwork and customs booking form by 12:00 midday (Day A). Customs entry will be returned by 17:00 same day (Day A.)

Please ensure that if your consignment is arriving via an inventory location it is clearly highlighted on our booking form and the unit number is captured on your paperwork, so our Woodland team can claim and clear the unit as well.

Next day customs clearance paperwork

For shipments where you require customs clearance paperwork returned by the following day, all documents received post 12:00 (midday) on Day A will be returned to you/your carrier by 12:00 (midday) on the following Day B.

Please note that where your carrier is using GVMS border systems, it is important that they correctly link the pre-lodgement import customs entry into the system to make sure your consignment clears customs correctly. Failure to do so might result in a customs hold, fine or query resulting in unnecessary cost to you.
