Woodland Group receives gold EcoVadis sustainability rating, placing in top 5% worldwide

Representing its continued commitment to sustainable business practices that will benefit all internal and external stakeholders, wider communities and the environment, logistics and supply chain company Woodland Group has received a gold EcoVadis sustainability rating in its 2023 assessment.

Having first been assessed in 2022, receiving a Bronze rating, Woodland Group has made significant progress on and investment into additional processes and initiatives that support its environmental and social sustainability. Woodland Group scored highly across EcoVadis’ 4 pillars of environment, labour & human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement, receiving gold score ratings across the board.

This rating places Woodland within the top 5% of the 110,000+ companies assessed by EcoVadis worldwide, securing a particularly high score for its environmental processes and commitments.

EcoVadis is a global sustainability rating company which validates corporate adherence to 21 recognised CSR criteria which follow verifiable international CSR standards (the Global Compact Principles, the International Labour Organisation conventions, the Global Reporting Initiative standard, and ISO 2600). Documentation and proof of policies in action are required to support every answer covering Human Rights, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Training, Health and Safety, environmental reporting, accreditations and initiatives, Ethics, cyber security and sustainable procurement, which includes the assessment of sustainable suppliers and choice to invest into procuring sustainably sourced, recycled materials.

Sam Warren, Woodland Group Sustainability Manager, commented “It’s fantastic to be a part of the journey Woodland is undertaking to ensure it remains the sustainable supply chain partner of choice. To have been commended so highly by an impartial and thorough assessment scheme like EcoVadis underpins the positive work being undertaken across the Group. This achievement is the result of our collective efforts and is a testament to our dedication to go above and beyond global environmental and social responsibility standards, and ultimately building a more sustainable future for all.”.

The EcoVadis achievement bolsters Woodland’s continued sustainability efforts, having recently published its first Sustainability Report, outlining its ESG impact, goals, progress and future priorities. The report’s aim is to transparently showcase the progress being made across its Environmental, Social and Governance targets and to outline how future goals will be achieved.

Beyond the 2022 Sustainability Report, Woodland Group has also set out its

Net-Zero
commitments to align with the “2050 Race to Net-Zero” targets. These commitments propose a 90% reduction in emissions by 2050, with 5,789.63 metric tonnes of CO2e already being cut from its operations in 2022. A full Net-Zero strategy will be released by the supply chain company later this year.

Furthermore, Woodland’s participation in the UN Global Compact Network demonstrates its willingness to prioritise responsible business action as part of its overall future strategy. The UN Global Compact is made up of a set of 10 principles focusing on human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption, with members committing to align their operations and services to create business for a better world. The compact is made up of over 15,000 companies across 160 countries and is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world.

“I’m incredibly proud of the sustainable development of the Group over the past few years, and the commitment of all Woodlanders and our partners to creating, improving, and initiating processes that will benefit all. We’ve seen tremendous growth over recent years, and thanks to our teams’ hard work, innovative, agile, and collaborative approach, we continue to evolve positively, committed to reducing our own environmental impact, as well as that of our clients and suppliers, while creating growth opportunities for our entire ecosystem. I look forward to seeing us continue on our sustainability journey and to collaborating with governments, associations, brands, companies, and communities on creating positive change and improving business practices for a better future."
