Today’s announcement marks the first major post-Brexit free trade agreement the UK has struck.
The free trade agreement will provide opportunity for both nations to increase exports and grow businesses while benefiting from removed tariffs. The food and drink (including confectionery), car and machinery/manufacturing as well as agricultural sectors are just some of the main industries which both governments hope to see benefit from the agreement.
With trade expected to pick up, and while this trade lane has seen increasing pressure as a result of the congestion and disruption in Yantian and Singapore (more on this here), with Asia being a common transhipment location for Australia-destined cargo or stop off point for the vessels calling Australia from the UK, please make sure to contact one of our dedicated Australasia team members to discuss supply chain opportunities to make use of the free trade deal.
