Severe Winter Storm Forecast To Disrupt U.S. Transport Networks
A major winter storm is expected to impact large parts of the United States from Friday through Monday, with widespread snow, ice and freezing temperatures likely to cause disruption across road, air and port networks.
Severe winter weather is forecast across much of the U.S., with transport disruption expected in several regions.
A significant winter storm system is forecast to affect large areas of the United States, with snow, ice and freezing temperatures expected to disrupt transport operations across multiple regions.
Weather forecasts indicate the system could impact up to 33 states, extending from the Southern Plains through the Midwest and into the Northeast. Conditions are expected to vary by region, with heavy snowfall in northern areas and hazardous ice accumulation across parts of the South.
Southern states including Texas, Tennessee and Alabama are forecast to experience freezing rain and ice, increasing the risk of unsafe road conditions, power outages and delays to road transport. Further north, parts of the Plains, Midwest and Northeast may see significant snowfall, with some areas forecast to receive substantial accumulations over the weekend.
Major transport corridors and logistics hubs are expected to be affected, with disruption likely across highways, airports and ports, particularly during peak periods. Northeastern seaports and inland distribution networks may also experience knock-on delays as conditions deteriorate.
Following the storm, colder Arctic air is forecast to move into affected regions, prolonging icy conditions and potentially slowing recovery efforts in the most impacted areas.
