Woodland Group Awarded EcoVadis Gold Sustainability Rating for Fourth Consecutive Year

Woodland Group remains amongst the world's highest-performing organisations for sustainability, earning Gold status for the fourth year running.

Woodland Group is proud to announce that it has once again been awarded a Gold EcoVadis Sustainability Rating, marking the fourth consecutive year the business has achieved one of the world's highest recognised sustainability accreditations.

The Gold rating is awarded to the top 5% of organisations assessed by EcoVadis worldwide. Woodland Group's overall score places the business in the 97th percentile globally, reflecting its continued commitment to responsible business practices across environmental performance, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

For customers operating increasingly complex global supply chains, independent assessments such as EcoVadis provide valuable assurance that their logistics partners are meeting recognised international standards and continually improving their environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.

Independent recognition of long-term progress

EcoVadis assesses more than 150,000 companies worldwide, evaluating organisations against internationally recognised sustainability standards and evidence-based performance criteria.

Rather than recognising a single initiative or project, the Gold rating reflects Woodland Group's long-term commitment to embedding sustainability throughout its operations and decision-making.

From investment in lower-emission infrastructure and renewable energy to employee wellbeing, governance, compliance and customer-focused decarbonisation services, sustainability continues to play an integral role in how Woodland delivers supply chain solutions around the world.

The latest rating also reinforces Woodland Group's ambition to continually improve, with sustainability remaining a strategic priority across every area of the business.

Driving measurable environmental progress

The EcoVadis award follows another year of measurable progress, as outlined within Woodland Group's latest Sustainability Report.

Highlights include:

  • A 56% reduction in emissions from annual energy use compared with the 2022 baseline.
  • A 59% reduction in material handling emissions in a single year.
  • More than 94% of Woodland's material handling fleet now operating electrically across its network.
  • Achievement of DVSA Earned Recognition status alongside ISO 45001 accreditation across major operational sites.
  • Recognition as one of the CILT UK Top 30 Logistics Service Providers, ranking #24 in 2025.

These achievements reflect continued investment in cleaner operations, energy efficiency, safer workplaces and responsible business practices that support customers, colleagues and communities alike.

Supporting customers on their own sustainability journey

Alongside reducing its own environmental impact, Woodland Group continues to invest in solutions that help customers decarbonise their supply chains.

During 2025, Woodland launched a comprehensive Book & Claim service, enabling customers to purchase the environmental benefits of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), sustainable marine biofuels and biodiesel across air, sea and road freight.

Using an independently verified Book & Claim methodology, customers can reduce their Scope 3 emissions without requiring the fuel to be physically used on their own shipments. The approach helps accelerate investment in low-carbon fuels while providing organisations with a practical and credible pathway towards achieving their own sustainability objectives.

Woodland has also demonstrated this approach internally through the voluntary purchase of Sustainable Aviation Fuel certificates, reducing emissions associated with business air travel by almost 28% during the year.

Collaboration driving real-world results

Woodland Group continues to work closely with customers to identify practical opportunities for reducing supply chain emissions without compromising operational performance.

One recent example saw Woodland partner with itsu [grocery] to redesign freight movements between Spain and the UK, replacing a traditional road transport model with a short sea shipping solution.

The modal shift delivered a 56% reduction in transport emissions while maintaining the service reliability, transit times and cost efficiency required within the food sector - demonstrating how collaboration and data-led logistics can deliver measurable environmental improvements.

Building a more sustainable future

Commenting on the award, Sam Warren, Sustainability Manager for Woodland Group said:

"Achieving EcoVadis Gold for a fourth consecutive year is an important milestone and reflects the dedication of colleagues across our global business. Sustainability isn't a standalone initiative - it's embedded into how we operate, how we invest and how we support our customers. While we're proud of this recognition, we remain focused on continuous improvement and helping build supply chains that are more sustainable, resilient and transparent for the future."

The latest EcoVadis Gold rating represents another significant milestone in Woodland Group's sustainability journey, but not the destination.

As customer expectations, legislation and environmental challenges continue to evolve, Woodland Group remains committed to investing in practical solutions, measurable improvements and collaborative partnerships that deliver long-term value for customers while contributing to a more sustainable global supply chain.
