DUBLIN EMPTY CONTAINER STORAGE SPACE DECREASE - EFFECTS
January 2020 has seen the landscape at Dublin port change.
With DCATS, the largest empty container depot in Dublin with a capacity of 11000 TEU’s, closing down, the container storage space within the port area will be reduced drastically over the coming weeks.
As a result, shipping lines are forced to look for additional storage outside of the port area.
All empty containers will need to be returned to these alternative depots (further details on these depots will be published in due course), advised by shipping lines depending on their empty container stock level . This will ultimately result in increased haulage prices for the return of the empty containers, subject to the location of the container depots chosen by the shipping lines.
Dublin Port are in the process of building a new inland depot but it is not expected to be ready for some time.
Unfortunately this is something that lies completely out of our control. Woodland Group have been liaising with the shipping lines and Dublin port authorities and will continue to do so throughout this transition. We will share further details with you as soon as they’re available.
